Makeup Brands. Whats in your bag?

Hi Everyone :)

I was recently asked what main brand of makeup I use...

If one were to  peer down into my faithful red makeup bag they would  find everything from Wet and Wild to MAC.  This lesson is a simple one, and that is,your personal makeup should  never be confined to one brand! If you use only MAC , Clinique ,NARS or Whatever.. Stop!  Your completely shortchanging yourself! Go out and Explore new lines and colors you wouldn't normally wear, step out of your everyday Neutrals and dive into some Emerad greens and Deep Purples.Try that new Chanel foundation you read about in Cosmo last week. Do something different! You never know... your perfect shade and brand might just be out there waiting to be discovered!

Everything you wanted to know about Chemical Peels but were afraid to ask

What Exactly is a Chemical Peel?
A chemical Peel is a solution applied to the skin, this solution helps smooth the surface by removing damaged layers of skin.Chemical peels are also Great for treating scarring, acne, pigmentation problems and fine lines and wrinkles.

Will I end up looking like Samantha from Sex and the City?
Ha Ha. No.

As an Esthetician I only perform "light" Alpha Hydroxy Acid Peels   which only effects the very top layer of the skin so there is no downtime, your in and out within the hour. With continued sessions medium depth is reached but that's as far as I can go.  For stronger peels(like Samantha's here) one must visit their dermatologist or plastic surgeon.

How much does this cost?
This really varies from anywhere from 50-200. At the spa I work at we charge on the lower end of the spectrum around 50.00 a session with a recommended 4-6 sessions.

Does this hurt?
Well its not the most comfortable feeling.. but its not that bad. Some clients don't feel anything at all while most feel a hot itching prickling sensation .

Will you see results after the first time?
Yes you will! You will notice a tighter and more toned face with a beautiful glow. You also might notice tighter pores and reduction of some fine lines.  For specific problems such as acne, scarring, and  light wrinkles you will need several sessions to see results.

Whats the difference between this and Microdermabrasion?
Microdermabrasion and Chemical Peel work almost the same way. Micro uses medical grade crystals to slough off that first layer of dead skin cells in case doing everything a chemical peel can do except for treating acne. Please make sure your Esthetician has been properly trained in Microdermabrasion because an unproperly trained technician CAN remove live skin cells from the surface causing scrapes and scabbing on the skin. With chemical peels, the acids ONLY remove dead skin cells, so you wont have to worry about this.  It is really a matter of personal preference on which procedure you choose. My choice personally though is the Chemical Peel because I can choose the proper strength and proper acid for dealing with certain skin conditions.

What kind of peel is best for me?

LACTIC
Lactic is Great for dry skin, damaged, and aging skin. I  ALWAYS recommend this peel this peel for 50 + due to the moisturizing effects, it actually draws moisture to the surface! Lactic Acid also helps stimulate and speed up skin cell turnover on the surface layer of your skin. In the deeper layers of skin, new collagen and elastin will be stimulated and your skin will love for it, as this will result in thicker and  firmer skin!
Fact:Lactic Acid is derived from Sour Milk.
Great for : Acne,Acne Scars, Dry Skin, Fine lines and wrinkles, Age Spots, Hyperpigmentation ,Eczema, Large
Pores and Elasticity

Glycolic

Glycolic is probably my most  favorite and used peel. Glycolic is great on all skin types and for all sorts of problems EXCEPT for sensitive skin. Reason- Glycolic acid's molecular structure is VERY tiny.. therefore this penetrates your skin hard and fast! (thats what she said) OK all joking aside, by doing this, glycolic acid boasts the fastest collagen stimulation of any AHA. Which can just be too much for Sensitve skin types but great for Everyone eles!

Fact:  Glycolic derived from Sugar Cane
Great for: Acne, Acne Scars, Blackheads/Whiteheads, Sun-damaged Skin,  Pigmentation Problems, Fine Lines and Wrinkles, Elasticity Problems, Large Pores, Bumps, Age Spots

Salicylic

Salicylic is known for treating Acne and unlike our Lactic and Glycolic Acids it  is our only Beta Hydroxy acid. Basically meaning this acid is more soluble in oil as opposed to water as the Lactic and Glycolic .This allows it to penetrate into clogged pores and unplug oil and dirt. Making it an AWESOME peel for extremely oily and Acne prone skin.
Fact: Salicylic is from the bark of the Willow tree

What happens after a chemical peel?

Your skin might show some signs of redness or have a flushed appearance after receiving a chemical peel. Your Esthetician will apply a moisturizer with spf to your skin. STAY OUT OF THE SUN for the next few days as your skin will be extra sensitive to its rays. If you have to go out make sure you wear sunblock with atleast an spf of 15. (You should be doing this ALL the time anyways!!!!!) Immediately after a chemical peel you should also stay away from strenuous activities that will cause you to get hot or sweat because you can reactivate the chemicals that remained deep in your pores. If this happens lay down with a cool compress.

Who should Avoid Chemical Peels?

Pregnant Women
Anyone with Herpes
History of Sun allergies
Accutane and Retin-A users
Undergoing Radiation Treatments
 Anyone with a Sunburn

Easy Missing eye Halloween Makeup tutorial using Liquid Latex

Hello my lovlies,

I just finished up a scary Halloween Makeup tutorial!  This was alot of  bloody fun but calls for alot of liquid latex!  Don't forget, when working with latex always protect your skin with a moisturizer, as this makes clean much easier when its time to remove your "fake skin".  Also be careful when working around your hair line. Latex WILL pull your hair out.  If you have any long facial hair I recommend having it waxed or removing it in one way or another, as much as I want to tell you to shave it, the Esthetician inside of me says no-no! Anyways hope you enjoy :)

1 egg seperated, all you need is the whites, discard the yolk.
2tsp of cornstarch

Mix ingredients together
Apply to face with fan brush and wait 20 mins or until dry!

You are really going to be able to feel the tightening effects of this while it is drying!  Enjoy!

Making eyeshadows, oh my!

Eyeshadows.. I love them I can't tell you how much money I have invested in buying all the colors of the rainbow, but there are still colors I wish I could find or wish my favorite lines would create. Soooo.. I am  just going to make them myself!  I thought about this when the spa here asked me to find a quality affordable  cosmetic line but I don't think an affordable spa line of makeup exsists!   So I ordered some pigments, micas, and lots of other goodies last night from various places and realized WOW.. I am paying MAC 20.00 for one eyeshadow.. why (well because they are so so so Beautiful) but besides that point... Why? MAC and the big makeup companies are making a KILLING!!!! So why not spend the next couple months learning how to do this myself and try and make fun and unique colors!?!  I already have a nice understanding of cosmetic ingredients  from school, so why not put that knowledge to use! And  then if everything goes well...  By the beginning of next year I would love to sell them , I am thinking Etsy. Also I would like to make them completely affordable I hate that sometimes I really want an item of makeup and I either can't buy it because I can't justify the amount I am paying for it or I buy it and feel REALLY guilty the next day. We are in a Recession people!   In the meantime I have been  thinking of some really cool palette names, am I getting way to ahead of myself? Probably.. :) Anyways just thought I would share :)

Introductions and Skin Care basics

Well to start off with I would like to Welcome you to my blog. So well... WELCOME.  Secondly I want to tell you why I personally wanted to write one.  Everyday I come across clients who are so lost when it comes to skincare and makeup. From teenagers to seniors and everyone in between.  I can't tell you how many clients that come in who do nothing but run a hot washcloth across their face and call it their skin care routine. Or the client who tells me she has 15 year old makeup she still uses... WHAT?!?!?!? Are you kidding me people? Seriously!??!? LOL. Well I am here to educate and Inform you and hopefully be able to answer all of your questions you might have for me.  I am a Licensed Esthetician, Makeup Artist, and Eyelash Extension Tech so any questions you may have concerning skincare, makeup, hair removal, eyelash extensions, chemical peels, microdermabrasion.. (see where I am going with this..) I  am your go to Girl. K? Ok.  Now that we have that out of the way, I do want this my first blog to be informative and not just an introduction. I want to know what your skincare routine is! And if you DON'T have one I am going to give you one right now.

Cleanse, Tone, and Protect.

Now that wasn't hard was it?
Let me tell you why you need to be doing this

Cleansing: Well this is simple enough, Dirt be gone! Choose a cleanser according to your skin type.

Toning: Ok, why should we tone? Well because this brings your skin back to its natural ph level and helps close your pores before before protecting it with a moisturizer. If you have oily skin you should use an astringent as this contains alcohol to help reduce any excess oil.

Protect: Any facial Moisturizer with an SPF of atleast 15 should do. The reasons for this should be clear ladies and gentlemen. We have to protect our skin from the damaging effects of the sun. This is our number one cause of wrinkling and aging. And for all you tanning bed mamacitas out there tsk tsk!  Stop for goodness sake, you might not see it now, but you will!

Ok so now if anyone asks you what your skincare routine you know what to say. Cleanse. Tone. Protect.
Your skin will love you for it!
